The Three Step Program : Step One
In the BEFORE stage, we focus on foundation and design. Every good
structure needs a solid design and foundation to start building.
Having difficulty starting? Want to gather your thoughts? Are you
JUST stuck and need some input from someone who KNOWS what it's like
to be stuck?
STEP ONE : BEFORE
1) Brainstorm
In the BEFORE phase, North Notes will BRAINSTORM with you about WHAT
you want to write about. Remember, when brainstorming, NO THOUGHT is
too silly!
2) Edit
In the EDIT phase, North Notes will decide with you what genre that
you want to write: fiction, nonfiction, poetry, prose, etc. We will
look at the topic for your term paper. We will go through and edit
your business plan ideas.
3) Filter
In the first stage, we brainstormed your ideas. After we have looked
at the topics for the genre that you want to write, your business
plan ideas, term paper topics, etc., we will get more specific.
Examples include a genre that was picked during the brainstorming
stage. You will now decide when and where you want your story to
take place, what characters will be in the story, what the premise
is of your story, etc. Your business plan ideas have been picked.
How do you want to utilize those ideas? How will you utilize your
term paper ideas?
4) Organize
We will now ORGANIZE what we have gathered and put them in an
orderly fashion. Every good structure has a solid foundation.
5) Recognize
You may be asking yourself "why are we doing this?" RECOGNIZE that
you need to design your plans before you can start building.
Automobiles, buildings and ships are never built before a design is
in place. In order to make your writing real, you will need to
envision what you want your novel, business plan, term paper, etc.
to look like. You must RECOGNIZE that your design is not etched in
stone. The design part is the fun part because it is the easiest and
most convenient part that can be altered. What if a builder of a
hospital wanted to change where a lab should be placed? It would be
much easier to alter the design or blueprint rather than changing
the location during construction.
6) Execute
Finally, you have EXECUTED your design! You have your blueprint,
design plan or any other name that you would like to name it. You
have your vision of WHAT you want your novel, business plan, term
paper, etc. to look like. You are ready to begin.
